CRICKET was invented or rather imported from Belgium so why is Cricket so English. Belgium Chocolate is very nice as well Paul is not sure about this information but he does know that Cricket first appeared (I guess they mean played) in the 1600's. The first Cricket Club was formed in Hambledon (Hampshire) in the 1760's and the world famous Marylebone Cricket Club - The MCC was founded in 1787. A year later a pitch had to be 22 yards long (thats a chain by the way) Lords - had a short stay at Marylebone Bank REGNTS PARK from 1811 and 1813, however Lord's moved to a new rural ground - previously the site of a duck pond - in St John's Wood in 1814 (note the word rural - London was fo course a smaller pace in those days) What's a chain? It is an imperial unit of measurement and measures 66 feet or 22 yards. There are 10 chains in a Furlong (furlongs still used today on Horse Racing circuits). The chain was used with the mile to indicate distances on land. (metric would be about 20,116.8 millimetres) | |||||
